The Bauder Lecture is the main event of the Contemporary American Authors Lecture Series, now in its 35th year, which brings an important African American writer to the Marygrove campus for a lecture or reading. The lecture takes place in the Marygrove Conservancy Theatre. It begins at 8 pm and ends at approximately 9:15. Major sponsors include the Lillian and Don Bauder Endowment, the Mary Helen Washington Endowment, and the Michigan Arts and Culture Council. Featured guests are Tracy K. Smith, recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, former US Poet Laureate, and Professor of English and African and African American Studies at Harvard University and Nandi Comer, Michigan Poet Laureate.
